Charles Douglas is an award-winning director who specializes in the creation and capture of impactful performances for interactive media.
Charles has guided actors in crafting performances celebrated by BAFTA, The Game Awards, The Golden Joysticks Awards, The D.I.C.E. Awards, leading publications, and millions of fans around the world. He was a Performance Director on Larian Studios' acclaimed Baldur's Gate 3, winner of every major Game of the Year award. Other credits include: South of Midnight (Compulsion Games), Resident Evil 4 (Capcom, remake), New World: Aeternum (Amazon Games), New Tales from the Bordlerlands (Gearbox), Redemption Reapers (Adglobe), and movement direction for beingAI's first transmedia AI Being®. As Shoot Master of Beyond Capture Studios' flagship Montreal stage, Charles produced and facilitated outstanding shoot experiences for industry-leading clients. His superpower is the ability to positively integrate the perspectives of diverse stakeholders and then translate this vision into direction that inspires actors.
Charles is currently an Assistant Professor in Acting and Directing with Emerging Technologies and Head of Discipline (Screen and Audio Training) at LAMDA. He is a Visiting Lecturer at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. A graduate with distinction of Central's MA Movement: Directing and Teaching course, Charles wrote the first thesis on actor movement and performance capture. His practice is informed by ongoing research and a decade and a half of professional experience across media and live settings. Charles' credits include playing Coryphaeus in Double Eye Studios' Venice and SXSW award-winning XR experience Finding Pandora X (Double Eye Studios) and leading several productions for the National Arts Centre of Canada's English Theatre company.

Baldur's Gate 3
Charles provided Performance Direction for this landmark RPG, based on Wizards of the Coast's beloved Dungeons and Dragons franchise. One of the most acclaimed and successful games in history, BG3 won every major Game of the Year award. The cast of BG3 were celebrated for their memorable performances - Andrew Wincott received a BAFTA Game Award (Performer in a Supporting Role) and Neil Newbon won at both The Game Awards (Best Performance) and The Golden Joysticks (Best Supporting Performer). Charles also notably directed Tracey Wiles (BAFTA nominee), Dave Jones (BAFTA longlist), Devora Wilde, Tim Downie, and Theo Soloman.

The Future of Practice
Charles is passionate about researching the future of storytelling.
He has shared research around the world, including at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts' Digital Conference, the Performance and XR Conference, and CATR-SQET's Joint Conference. Charles has previously taught at the University for the Creative Arts, University of the Arts London, Simon Fraser University, and the Vancouver Film School. As a Senior Instructor at VFS, he created and delivered the school's flagship performance capture curriculum. Charles holds a Bachelor of Education degree from Queen's University and is a Fellow of the RSA.
